Share Wycombe Library of Things

Borrowing, not buying, is the smart new way to get things you need without the clutter! We are making a start on that for Wycombe with the ‘Things’ you need for a summer party!

Imagine there was a big, big cupboard at the end of your road full of all the tools, gadgets and ‘Things’ you need every now and again…… and you can borrow those ‘Things’ easily whenever you want …… then give them back.  Like a book library, you borrow and return, but instead of books, it is ‘Things’ that you need every now and again.

We want to create that big, big cupboard here in Wycombe, along with a community of people interested in creating benefits through sharing.

So we are making a small start, with some key kit you need for a summer party! We hope that from this seed we might grow a full-monte library of things!

Over time, as we build our stock and our volunteers, Share Wycombe Library of Things will be the place you come to hire ‘Things’, run by volunteers for the benefit of the community.

Borrowing saves you money, saves storage space and saves the planet, because between us we only need one ‘thing’, not everyone having one that sits in a cupboard unused most of its life!  

How do you borrow?

For our first baby-steps in getting this off the ground we are keeping things VERY simple. It will all be face to face - because that is the way we can get it going … let’s build it ‘live’ from a small start, rather than taking time behind the scenes.

So, on Saturday mornings, between 11.00 and 1.00, you can come into the old Chiltern Shopping Centre, to Pride of Place (next door to Refresh) and book, collect and bring back the Things you have borrowed.

We have all that you need for a summer party

  • 48 glasses (highball tumblers)

  • 36 mugs

  • 6 x 6 litre jugs

  • 2 folding tables

  • bunting

The hire charge for each of these items is £5 for a week, and we will take a £20 deposit per item which is fully refunded when the item is returned undamaged. If you are hiring more than two items at the same time, we will agree an appropriate deposit depending on what you are hiring.

And, as a special perk for for members of Wycombe Environment Centre, you could also borrow a gazebo. The gazebo is not available unless you are a member of Wycombe Environment Centre.

Interested in helping?

We need volunteers to help us expand what we can hire out. Many of the things people would like to borrow are electrical, and to hire those out we need a team of people willing to check kit over before it is rehired. We also need people to just help administer things, look after an inbox, online forms and the rest! Sounds too much like hard work? Don’t worry - at Wycombe Environment Centre we specialise in making everything about community, so it won’t feel like work, it will be good solid fun with people who will become your friends!
